Her expertise spans environmental advocacy, citizen diplomacy, and holistic problem-solving. With over 50 years of global experience, she has worked across the U.S., Italy, Colombia, Japan, Russia and Ecuador, designing solutions for a peaceful and regenerative world.
Norie’s international experience includes a year in Italy as an American Field Service exchange student, two years serving in the Peace Corps in Colombia, South America, four years in Japan researching and writing a best-selling book on Japan’s environmental crisis, and during the decade of the 1980s, participating in high-level citizen diplomacy initiatives in the former Soviet Union. sSince 2007, she and her husband have been creating a legacy project in Ecuador. Since 2007, Norie and her husband, Richard Wheeler, have been developing The Garden of Paradise in Ecuador where, in 2011, they won the first lawsuit in Ecuador and in the world defending the Rights of Nature - considered a landmark case on a global level. Their beautiful 350-acre Healing and Retreat Center is being developed by Norie and Richard as an innovative and sustainable rural development model, which is part of their legacy.
